Day 6 - June 26th 2007

On an early morning we had a spare breakfast in the Motel. Today was planned a tour through the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

Oliver took that picture above in front of the Main Entrance of the Center. So Maureen, Pat and I pose together with the legendary Buffalo Bill ;-)

Inside of the huge Center there are 5 different museums. Before we visited the first museum we got a free weelchair for Pat, so she didn't had to walk all the time. Then we visited the Plains Indian Museum first, where you can see how the indians lived on the plains, an early lodge, an early 1900s reservation house, PowWow regalia and video.

It was just amazing and for me the most interesting of the 5 museums, and in this museum we spend the most time. After so much walking and so many new impressions we just needed a little pause and rested a while in the Buffalo Bill Cafe. Then we went over to the Buffalo Bill Museum, with a great Wild West Show exhibit and video, the story of Buffalo Bill's family, Buffalo Bill's boyhood home and authentic bed, chuck, and sheep wagons.

This was the second best museum and after that we went a little more tired. But we also visited the Draper Museum of Natural History and walked through the Whitney Gallery of Western Art. Oliver was the only one who had a last fast walk through the last museum, the Cody Firearms Museum.

Then we were really done with all the museums. It was really great, amazing and interesting, but it took a long time to go through and so Pat, Maureen and I were happy to be outside again. Oliver was the only one who would have liked to stay longer.

The next stop we had in Cody was the Old Trail Town. While Pat and Maureen stayed in the car to rest a bit, Oliver and I went in. On the following picture you can read about the History of the Old Trail Town.

The Old Trail Town collection now consists of 26 buildings, which date from 1879 to 1901, 100 horse drawn vehicles, an extensive collection of memorabilia from the Wyoming frontier and authentic Indian artifacts. It's the largest collection of its kind in Wyoming, so we were really glad to see it. And when you have just a little bit of fantasy you could really imagine you are a part of the Wild West ;-)

Unfortunately we both, Oliver and me too, we don't remember where we stayed that following night, maybe in Cody again or a bit outside in another Motel. The next day we planned to visit Little Bighorn Battlefield in Montana, so we maybe stayed over night close to the Crow Indian Reservation, but still in Wyoming.
